Where can I download an ebook about hurricane katrkatrina.
not
im doing a report on katrina right now and i need to find out the death toll and the number of missings persons currently. Thanks ahead of time and sorry if this question isnt appropiate but i couldnt find it anywhere online.
Wikipedia lists 1,836 dead and 705 missing.
I live in central Florida where it tends to flood every summer. I want to start growing some Marijuana plants that need to be well hidden, so they must be grown outside. The water gets to about 12 inches at worst. So, can 420 be grown in pots? Is there any way to do this without taking it inside?
I have some money I’m willing to spend if I need to
Use redwood instead of treated lumber as the chemicals in the treated lumber could kill the plants.
I have been learning how to drive a Manual but have no clue as to how to brake quickly in the case of an emergency on the freeway.
Am I to just slam my brakes down, then downshift? Or Brake and Downshift at the same time?
Sorry if my question seems stupid, but I don’t know anybody else who drives a manual.
brake and downshift at the same time for sure. it helps a lot
From: Myers and Theisen, 1994, Volcanic Event Notification at Mount St. Helens: IN: Casadevall, (ed.), 1994, Volcanic Ash and Aviation Safety: Proceedings of the First International Symposium on Volcanic Ash and Aviation Safety: USGS Bulletin 2047, 450p
When Mount St. Helens awoke in March 1980, there was an immediate need for the rapid dissemination of information about volcanic events and hazards. An emergency coordination center (ECC) was established at the U. S. Forest Service (USFS) facility in Vancouver, Washington. The facility was staffed 24 hours a day by USFS personnel experienced with emergency response. During critical times, the ECC was also staffed by representatives of the U. S. Geological Survey Cascades Volcano Observatory, emergency management agencies, and private companies. A communications network and telephone call-down procedures were developed to facilitate rapid dissemination of information about the activity of the volcano. Information was also disseminated through public meetings, press conferences, and briefings with governmental agencies and private businesses (Miller and others, 1981). Written "volcanic and seismic activity reports" were issued daily. These "daily updates" provided information on the status of the volcano and any significant changes or observations during the previous 24 hours.
Since 1980, this notification system has been modified in response to changes in volcanic activity, funding, and the concerns of government, business, and the public. Key changes include the capability of issuing written predictions weeks in advance of most eruptions; eliminating the need for 24-hour duty for both USFS/ECC and CVO staff except when eruptions are imminent; entering all predictions and updates into a computer "news" system for easy review by those on the call-down list; updating volcanic activity reports when the volcano is quiet; and, most recently, developing a seismic alarm to alert scientists to small events that occur without precursors.
Monitorings and Warnings
From: Wolfe and Pierson, 1995, Volcanic-Hazard Zonation for Mount St. Helens, Washington, 1995: USGS Open-File Report 95-497
Volcanic activity at Mount St. Helens is carefully monitored by the U. S. Geological Survey and the University of Washington. Some kinds of events, such as crater-wall avalanches or steam- driven explosions from the dome have occurred without warning in the past and may do so again. However, our experience since early 1980 at Mount St. Helens and elsewhere indicates that the monitoring is sufficient for us to detect the ascent of fresh magma that must take place before another large eruption. As in the past, interpretation of phenomena related to magma ascent will enable us to provide warnings and updated assessments of hazards.
Lahar and flood hazards are monitored by the U. S. Geological Survey and the National Weather Service; the latter agency has responsibility for providing warnings of floods, including lahars. Currently monitoring includes: (1) lake-level gages on Castle, Coldwater, and Spirit Lakes, (3) sensors to measure movement on the Castle Lake debris dam, (3) flow-vibration sensors in the North Fork Toutle River valley to detect passage of lahars or floods, and (4) streamflow gages in the North Fork, South Fork, and main channel of the Toutle River and in the Muddy River.
So I live in South FL and have 2 tanks (a 10gallon and a 65gallon) very happy and well set up. But I had never thought about how to protect them in case of a hurricane. When a hurricane threatens, I usually go up north with my cat and my bird, but what do I do with the fishies? Also, the power goes out in my area, every time a hurricane comes, so the filter wouldn’t be working for at least two days until I can come back and connect it to a generator. Any ideas, I’m kinda clueless here. Thanks
I live in Miami myself, and I have never evacuated my fish.
Go to Pet Smart (Aventura) and pick up a battery powered air pump ( they run on house curent, and when the power is cut they switch to battery), and a battery operated feeder (holds enough food for two weeks).
As long as your tank’s are in good condition before you leave, and you are sure that the house isn’t going to come down there is really no need to disturb your fish.
I just unplug the lighting and cover the tank (55 gallon) with a sheet of heavy plastic held down with bricks (In case a window breaks) and leave it alone.
If you must take your fish. A Styrofoam cooler lined with a heavy black garbage bag works well to hold your fish for transport.
If you evacuate to the same place every time and it is possible you might want to keep a basic aquarium setup there that can be used while your in residence.
Good Luck
E.
p.s. DO NOT try the peroxide thing suggested above. You would just come home to a bunch of dead fish. LOL;)))
Bands like maylene, or he is legend, get my drift? I love that gritty southern sound. It just gets me wired! I just want to be able to make some southern music ha. oh yes, and i play guitar
Probably blues and minor scales.
There are a lot of questions here addressed to those who believe the global warming concensus, asking them to explain such and such, and they always do a very good job of it. I’ve got some questions for the global warming skeptics. If global warming is fiction, or it’s not caused by humans, why is it that:
1) Extreme weather events (early indicators of global warming) have been skyrocketing over the past few decades, particularly floods, as seen in this graph?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Trends_in_natural_disasters.jpg
2) 1998 and 2005 were the hottest years in history, 2006 was the 6th hottest in history, the winter of 2006-2007 was the hottest winter in history, and considering the following global temperature graph?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Instrumental_Temperature_Record.png
3) With global temperatures currently significantly higher than at any point in the past 2000 years?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:2000_Year_Temperature_Comparison.png
Just considering all that data - not even anything more sophisticated, how do you explain that if human-caused global warming is a hoax?
Ash, I’m using graphs provided in Wikipedia because that’s the best place to find them. They’re representations of scientific data, so it’s pretty sad to ignore them simply because they’re presented by Wikipedia.
To most answers so far - yes the past 100 years is a relatively short sample period, but look at the trend in the graph. The temperature is trending drastically upward. Additionally, the past 2000 years is a significant sample time. One of the often cited skeptic arguments is that the Medieval Warm Period was hotter than now (false), and that’s included in the 2nd graph. You can’t invoke it once then later say it’s invalid. Additionally, there are similar graphs that go back hundreds of thousands of years. Please answer the question rather than dismissing it.
Trevor - I enjoyed the sarcasm!
Curiam - you appear to be misinformed.
Global cooling in the ’70s was not predicted to lead to an ice age. This claim by global warming skeptics is based mainly on a book written by a science fiction writer about a coming ice age. Science FICTION! From Wikipedia:
"Although there was a cooling trend then, it should be realised that climate scientists were perfectly well aware that predictions based on this trend were not possible - because the trend was poorly studied and not understood (for example see reference[6]). However in the popular press the possibility of cooling was reported generally without the caveats present in the scientific reports."
Frankly I don’t believe your comment about the rainforests, as it doesn’t make sense and you provide no evidence to support it.
I am convinced by scientific data and not baseless claims. Scientific data points to man-made global warming being very dangerous. There has been no evidence presented here to refute that.
I’m still waiting for a single good argument that actually addresses the data rather than dismissing it. I’ll say it again, made-up claims with no evidence to back them up do not convince me.
Can I put on my global warming skeptic hat and answer your question?
1) There’s never been any extreme weather events, nothing has ever flooded, there’s never even been any weather. This is true because Mars is warming and ExxonMobil said so.
2) No, wrong, don’t beleive you. Thermometers weren’t invented until last week. The graph is made up, Wikipedia want to tax us. 1998 was the coldest year on record, the Pacific froze, polar bears emigrated to Florida.
3) It was much warmer 2000 years ago. I used to live in a trpoical beach hut in the Arctic. The world is cooling. Volcanoes are to blame, they want to tax us as well.
You must admit, it’s more convincing than most global warming skeptic’s arguments.
why the hell would you like anything like that to happen mate.if India’s prepared, then so are other nations as well!!!
If we try to conquer and annexe then the other nations and the big daddy of ‘em all the United Nations will give us a mighty kick on our butts…
I need to know three effects on the land that hurricane katrkatrina caused. But a bit in depth of what the effects were.
Thanks any help appreciated.
