  • How long did it take for the globe to react to Hurricane Katrina?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under katrina | 4 Comments »

I am doing a social project and need an acctul time frame for when the world responded to hurricane katrkatrina for example, when did donations start coming in, when were we made aware?

Little know is that Hugo Chavez of Venezuela sent thousands of gallons of gasoline to help, free of charge. While Bush slept, NBC News was reporting the absence of aid 2 days after the hurricane hit. Japan and other countries offered and sent aid, as well.

CAN U GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE OF A NOT TOO LONG ENVIRONMENTAL POEM.

NEED IT BY MAY 15,2007 AT 6:45AM

Here is a poem by Darren Rieck I found on the web.

"The Earth Is All That Will Remain

Wind, Snow, Heat & Rain, The Earth Is All That Will Remain
So let your journey be Rich with Life until the end
By leaving trails like extensions of a hand to lend.
For others to grasp, reaching to pull them through
Doing to others only as you would’ve done to you.
Each day moving you closer to better health
Unveiling with every step that this is truly wealth.
Being able to see and do more than ever before
As you walk, bike or scoot when exiting by door.
All Natural, Fresh and Pure guide the items you select
Farm raised and produced with no chemicals to detect.
And after your deeds are done, the Earth is what stays the same
Being able to be Proud as you pass it along is what you gain.
Wind, Snow, Heat & Rain, The Earth Is All That Will Remain"

Are people who deny man made climate change suffering from ‘Normalcy Bias’?

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2010 and filed under wikipedia disaster | 9 Comments »

"The normalcy bias refers to an extreme mental state people enter when facing a disaster. It causes people to underestimate both the possibility of a disaster occurring and also its possible effects. This often results in situations where people fail to adequately prepare for a disaster, and on a larger scale, the failure of the government to include the populace in its disaster preparations. The assumption that is made in the case of the normalcy bias is that since a disaster never has occurred that it never will occur. It also results in the inability of people to cope with a disaster once it occurs. People with a normalcy bias have difficulties reacting to something they have not experienced before. People also tend to interpret warnings in the most optimistic way possible, seizing on any ambiguities to infer a less serious situation."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normalcy_bias

It’s what makes people stand and stare at an incoming tsunami instead of running. The most heart-breaking example I have seen was in a comic book called ‘When the wind blows’. The old lady and gentleman getting ready for the nuclear holocaust by pottering about filling a few pans of water and getting a bed made under a sloping door, as if it were an air-raid.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_the_Wind_Blows_(graphic_novel)

"The assumption that is made in the case of the normalcy bias is that since a disaster never has occurred that it never will occur."

This is certainly what their arguments are based on. Whether they believe this argument or not, I’m not sure. But we’ve all seen how often deniers argue ‘nothing came of acid rain, ozone depletion, Y2k, global cooling, etc.’. They constantly argue that because disasters have not occurred, they cannot occur. Of course in these cases they argue the threat never existed when in reality we simply addressed each of these problems and actively prevented the disaster from occurring. The problem with averting disaster enough times I suppose is that people grow accustomed to it and take it for granted that we will continue to avert it. Or they assume the warnings were just ‘alarmism’ and conclude that warnings of potential disaster are always ‘alarmist’.

"People also tend to interpret warnings in the most optimistic way possible, seizing on any ambiguities to infer a less serious situation."

Once again, a perfect description of AGW deniers.

I got 30 baby chicks through the mail. they are slowly dying one by one. they just lay there.the room is well lited and it is about 80-85 degrees F. they have plenty of sugared water and plenty of food. What is going wrong? i need help right away they are dying so fast. 2 r dead 3 r very sick 2 r getting sick.
    I NEED HELP!!!!!

Immediately move the sick ones away from the well ones.

They need to be in a different room.

Wash your hands, and go disinfect the well chick’s pen.
    RIGHT NOW!!!

Best thing to do is stop the spread of the illness. Protect the well chicks!

For the sick ones, put them into an aquarium if you have one. If not, get a large rubbermaid container. They need a heat lamp too. It needs to be 95 degrees in the pen.

Call the breeder. They may have ideas if they’re experiencing the same thing.

Food and water depend of the age of the chicks. They DON’T NEED FOOD FOR THE FIRST 24 HOURS of their lives.
    Some, even longer.

Go to the baby aisle of the grocery store and get a medicine shooter and Pedialyte.
DRIP the Pedialyte into the sick chicks.
    !!!!! DRIP !!!!!
You must go slow. Drop by drop. You can easily drown them.

    Good luck.

my cat urinated many times in different places (litter box cleaned) and we punished her and she kept doing it several times and she is normal no infecting or anything but why does she keep doing this? its not a territory thing and she has no problem. what is going on and what should we do?
    she was checked very recently
    SHE IS SPAYED

Your cat may be ill or perhaps needs to be spayed. Improper elimination is often a symptom of a medical problem. Usually it’s a urinary infection and easily treated, but PAINFUL. So off to the vet!

Litter box problems are very frustrating for all…..human and feline. Here’s a link that you might find helpful:

    http://www.absolutelycats.com/22LitterBox.html

Here’s a link to Cat Attract Kitty Litter. Many have had success with this product:

    http://www.preciouscat.com/

Please don’t punish her. She does not understand and its cruel. She is avoiding the litter box because she associates it with pain.

    Good Luck!
