How practical is an emergency evacuation of Europe?

Posted by admin on February 20th, 2011 and filed under evacuation | 2 Comments »

For purposes of argument, let’s say that on July 15, 2012, astronomers determine that the course of asteroid Apophis has been altered slightly and it is predicted to hit the middle of Europe on December 21, 2012. This will effectively wipe out Europe, parts of Russia and North Africa.

How practical is it over a period of six months to evacuate all of Europe?

Would there be widespread panic and chaos?

Personally, I’d walk and swim if need be to get away from the target. Scrounging for food could be problematic.

    Not at all practical.

Survival percentage rates in a disaster?

Posted by admin on February 17th, 2011 and filed under wikipedia disaster | 2 Comments »

I can remember reading an article once that broke the number of people in a disaster situation down into percentage chances of survival. It was something like 40% of people will panic and die because of this, whilst 20% will have a different reaction and then 10% will react another way as well? It’s something like the 40/20/10 rule but I can’t remember what the exact numbers were, I think I might have actually read it on Wikipedia originally. Any help at all appreciated :) I’m not asking for this information under the belief its absolutely correct, or that it can be applied to every single disaster situation, I’m just curious to remember a half-forgotten fact. I heard it on some programme or other and it just happened that Wiki had an article on it, as far as I can recall.

It would depend upon the type of disaster and the number of people effected.

Being honest Wilipedia is not the best source of information.

How does anything respond to preparedness or planning? Perhaps you meant to ask how the military responds to emergencies and plans for contingencies?

pokemon platinum: is this a good team to fight maylene in the veilstone gym?

Lv. 37 Infernape - Flame Wheel, Ember, Fury Swipes, Mach Punch
Lv. 33 Staravia - Take Down, Aerial Ace, Wing Attack, Double Team
Lv. 29 Luxio - Spark, Bite, Charge, Swagger
Lv. 29 Floatzel - Crunch, Aqua Jet, Swift, Water Gun
Lv. 16 Togetic - Yawn, Sweet Kiss, Metronome, Magical Leaf

i have a 6th pokemon but its my HM slave

You could throw a ghost type in there. Ghost types are immune to fighting and normal type moves so that will help greatly when you battle her pokemon. Try not to get duskull since its pretty weak right away. See if you can trade someone for a misdreavus (DONT evolve it until it learns all of its moves because once its evolved, it wont learn anymore).
Staravia is nice to have but since it is also normal type, its going to have a hard time with the more powerful fighting moves. Give it one more level and evolve it into Staraptor and it should be of more help. One more level on Luxio will make it a Luxray which will be helpful too. If you’re going to keep Staravia, get rid of togetic since two flying types will give you trouble in the future. Floatzel is a nice water type to have but its only good stat is its speed. Try a pokemon that has a duel type that has water type in it (ex. Ice/Water, Ground/Water). I see how people say to get a Garchomp, I scream heck no. Ice type moves are common and if it gets hit by one, its all over. Try a Hippowdon, its got a great defense stat and is really helpful in my team.
