  • How do so many people die in floods?

Posted by admin on March 28th, 2011 and filed under floods | 7 Comments »

I mean no disrespect by this question, I’ve just never been through major flooding and am having a difficult time figuring out how floods can be responsible for many human deaths. I just figured you get to higher elevation, go to the next level, the roof even, or climb a tree. Were flood waters exceptionally high in Arkansas that to even get on your roof wouldn’t help?

i guess they can’t hold their breath for to long

    Super-moon cause Natural disaster?

Posted by admin on March 26th, 2011 and filed under wikipedia disaster | 7 Comments »

NASA says that "the Super-moon does not cause natural disasters". I did a quick search for March 1993 natural disaster (because the last super-moon was in March 1993), and found out that their was a BIG storm even called the Storm of the Century on the exact dates of the super-moon.

    (article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_Storm_of_the_Century).

I believe in facts not what the government or NASA says and the facts say that the natural disaster might be caused by the moon. WHAT DO YOU THINK????
Don’t know what super-moon is read this article:
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20110318/sc_space/supermoonrisesbiggestfullmoonin18yearsoccurssaturdaynight#mwpphu-container

As Flying Car said earlier, "correlation does not simply imply causation."

    For example,

A occurs in correlation with B

Therefore, B must be the cause of A

—> From the statement above, you should see that there just might be some outside variable "C" that could in fact be what causes A to occur.

A common example of the correlation principle is the following:

    For example:

If the sky gets cloudy, it’s going to rain?

False, because does it actually rain each time that the sky gets cloudy. Nope, there usually is some other outside variable such as a low pressure system moving into a high pressure system causing storms as one example.

Also, wikipedia isn’t a very reliable source, which I know for a fact you know ; )
NASA is or now was staffed with some of the smartest people in the world.
They have their trade down, and astronomy is just basically physics on a really "large scale"
gravity and the pull of the moon on the earth has been calculated to almost pin-point
precision. And, with the moon in its natural location, a mere shift by a couple hundred or even thousand miles won’t do much more than create a stronger tide.

    Hi I was wondering
how did the Islamic relief charity respond to the floods?
What were the immediate response and long term response?
    How did they raise awareness/money?

They helped in the reconstruction, providing shelter, healthcare, continuation of education, supplying food and water. The donors make it possible. The organization is a big Islamic charity, and they always help.

Where can I get a cool sound effect or instrumental music of floods for my presentation?

Posted by admin on March 22nd, 2011 and filed under floods | 2 Comments »

Hi! My name is Taha and I am currently a 9th grade student. My teacher gave me an assignment to make a presentation about floods. I am planning to make it on Windows Movie Maker but before starting off, i need a background music or sound effect that suits it. Please tell me where can I find it.

    Hi There,

You can choose any sound from this site (link below) . It is "Partners in Rhyme" and appears to be a safe site. I used it with no problem from malware.
There are free sound effects on the left and some on the right youu have to purchase.

On the free (left side) I found one of running water.
Under the "Stream" section there are several sound clips you might use.

    How to download:

example: I left-clicked the "Brook" sound effect and a dialog bx opened up.

Next; right-click "Download this sound effect" and choose " Save linked content as" and a second dialog opened up with the file name "brook.wav" and "desktop" was already selected as the target.
Then in about 2 seconds the "brook.wav " file appeared, ready to use.

    Good luck with your presentation,
    Al

What does it mean when someone says that the floods that happened in Pakistan were a "9 day wonder’?

Posted by admin on March 18th, 2011 and filed under floods | 2 Comments »

Someone posted an answer to a question regarding that the disastrous floods Pakistan has suffered were a "That was a 9 day wonder". What does that mean?

It is just that initially the press and T.V. was full of news items regarding this disaster, in a short while this news was put on the backburner because of other important stories, The floods were partially forgotten in a short time due to them being in the media to much, therefore, the news soon faded, hence 9 day wonder.

How do the floods occurred in Indus Valley Civilisation?

Posted by admin on March 16th, 2011 and filed under floods | 1 Comment »

If possible, please please give me detailed answers or give me the relevant websites URL where I can find the origins of the floods.

The monsoon makes the rivers overfloat every few years. There is simply to much rain in a too short periode of time. It was always been like that in the history of mankind and will be like that for a long time in the future.

What caused the devastating Floods in Pakistan leaving 20 Million Homeless and Hungry?

Posted by admin on March 14th, 2011 and filed under floods | 5 Comments »

While UN says the recent floods in Pakistan are the worst natural disaster faced by any country in recent times, over 29 Million have been left homeless and relief is being provided by the government and different agencies and people including UN and friendly countries. The floods are said to be due to melting of glaciers in the mountains in Northern Pakistan. Are these glaciers melting due to global warming? Will such changes in weather continue to occur due o global warming>

Yes, the glaciers, ice bergs and snow caps in the northern parts of the world are starting to melt. The water is then flowing down on to the unfortunate countries who happen to be in the way of rivers, seas and coasts.

Also because Pakistan is still a developing country, the facilities and recovery methods are poor, thus the people are not prepared to re-built their lives quickly enough.

Is Matt Clark of Maylene & the Sons of Disaster related to Ryan and Don Clark of Demon Hunter?

Posted by admin on March 13th, 2011 and filed under maylene | 2 Comments »

I have been wondering if they were brothers or at least related because they look so much alike. But I can’t find anywhere that says that they are. I do know that Ryan and Don are brothers though.

I’ve never heard anything about them being related. And I’m a pretty big fan of both bands. I’m also a member of DH’s official fan club "The Blessed Resistance". Here’s a question answered by Ryan from the TBR community board: "Q: Hey I heard this really great rock band Thin December and a friend of mine told me that a couple of you guys (Don and Ryan) are related to the lead singer Johnny Cowan. Is that really true? If so talent really runs in your guy’s family!
A: Yes! That’s my cousin Johnny. He’s definitely talented and I think he’s going to do some amazing things with his music. Very cool to know you’ve heard his stuff." So, I can tell you that Don and Ryan are related to Johnny Cowan, but no clue about Matt Clark. It seems like Ryan would have mentioned something about Matt if he was related to him.

I want to get a job in emergency management and or something to do with climatology/global warming?

what should i study at uni/ are jobe well paid ?

Well its good you chose a broad range. What you get paid really depends on what you get into, its never really a sure bet. I’d suggest you look into what you are good at cause in the long run what you do has to make you make you happy.

As far as Climatology and GW go you would want to take some basic math and science classes like earth sciences, physics, meteorology, astronomy would be good too. I don’t really know what course of studies Universities are offering for them, you could talk to your school guidance counselor.

But its really hard to say without knowing what you’re good at or if you’re not sure it might be worthwhile taking some of those kind of classes at a community college to see what you like and what you are good at.

I mean most people really don’t know what they want to do until they’ve dive into the nitty gritty and find out what course of study fits with them.

    Good luck.
