  • Would Emergency Management be good for a Criminal Justice major or Homeland Security?

Posted by admin on April 14th, 2011 and filed under emergency management | 1 Comment »

I recently just opted out of my spanish minor because simply I just couldn’t do it. I plan on someday trying to be in the DEA or U.S. Marshalls or maybe even an Air Marshall. Would either of these majors help me out in becoming in either of those careers? Or if not, what would be a better major to get my foot in the door?

Emergency management has little to do with law enforcement in general even though law enforcement personnel work in emergency situations. Emergency management is about planning and directing activities which are necessary after a natural disaster or terrorist attack.

Criminal justice is a possibility for becoming a US marshall.

Would a BA Degree in Emergency Management or Security Management be better for US Marshals?

I know that US Marshals needs a 3 year educational experience of 1 year of law enforcement and 2 years undergraduate, I also need to know what program will be cover the FICP now since its no longer active? Im a senior in high school and part time national guard. I have already met the superior physical standards and know how to operate firearms at a professional level.

Either would be weighed the same, the point is that you have a BA in a related field. With a BA and military experience, you should be in a favorable group to get hired, however many marshals begin as local police officers and work as "task force officers" with the US marshals, as with other agencies to like the DEA or ATF. Then these selected few apply directly to be employed by the federal agency and get picked up. Entry level federal agent or deputy us marshals are very competative.

I want to get a job in emergency management and or something to do with climatology/global warming?

what should i study at uni/ are jobe well paid ?

Well its good you chose a broad range. What you get paid really depends on what you get into, its never really a sure bet. I’d suggest you look into what you are good at cause in the long run what you do has to make you make you happy.

As far as Climatology and GW go you would want to take some basic math and science classes like earth sciences, physics, meteorology, astronomy would be good too. I don’t really know what course of studies Universities are offering for them, you could talk to your school guidance counselor.

But its really hard to say without knowing what you’re good at or if you’re not sure it might be worthwhile taking some of those kind of classes at a community college to see what you like and what you are good at.

I mean most people really don’t know what they want to do until they’ve dive into the nitty gritty and find out what course of study fits with them.

    Good luck.

    Manage emergencies.

What can I do in the military that is involved with Emergency Management for both Enlisted and Officer?

Posted by admin on January 10th, 2011 and filed under emergency management | 2 Comments »

None of those really involve Emergency Management…

Emergency Management is the people who plan and maintain a facility, town, city, county, base?, and other things during a disaster, attack, and etc.

    Enlisted:

Air Force: Pararescue Jumper (PJ) Pretty much EMT’s with machine guns. Navy: Rescue Swimmer, they rescue people in and out of the ocean and do emt/paramedic work. Also in Coast Guard.

    Officer:

Search and Rescue pilot, not too many others!

What are some perks of working for a Office of Emergency Management?

3 types of offices: City of Houston, Galveston County, and City of League City; or your own equivalent.

What are some perks of working in these places?
Well Will as I believe some people just aren’t trying hard enough and if they are so inclined on getting a job I could find them one this week.

Most are just to stuck up and are expecting the same pay as they were getting before the bubble busted.

You have a J.O.B. — which is more than a lot of people these days. There are no special perks.
