  • Will the Republicans learn to appreciate the importance of federal govt from the recent tornadoes and floods?

Posted by admin on June 2nd, 2011 and filed under floods | 13 Comments »

The recent tragedies that hit the southern states (tornadoes and Mississippi River floods) caused massive damages to homes and businesses. In times like these, we learn that only the federal government has the power and the money to alleviate the suffering of the citizens. Will the Republicans finally stop insulting "big government" and learn to appreciate that it has more of an active role than just defense? It is good to see the Republican state governors standing with Obama and showing appreciation for the federal government’s role.

Republicans operate by the principle that the federal government should help them but shouldn’t help other people, especially not people that they don’t like. Everything else that they may say about the federal government is hypocritical nonsense. So, no, they won’t learn anything until they get past their narrow-minded, short-sighted, selfish views.

How do the Floods in Pakistan relate to Social Studies?

Posted by admin on May 10th, 2011 and filed under floods | 1 Comment »

I read an article about the floods in Pakistan and i was wondering how this thing reatles to Social Studies.
One thing i said was that its gonna be part of history in like 100 years

Social studies is basically the study of sociology, in other words, things that happen to large groups of people and things that large groups of people do. This is a big thing that’s happening to a lot of people, so if you study it, you’re definitely studying social studies :)

What are some common causes of stream floods?

Posted by admin on April 23rd, 2011 and filed under floods | 1 Comment »

I need at least 5 common causes of stream floods, does anyone have any idea?

    1) flash floods occur when a storm upstream causes an influx of water down stream
    2) a jam. be it from ice, man made, a beaver dam, or debris. Or the busting of that jam
    3) tsunami or tidal floe. Some rivers can actually ‘back flow’ Meaning the incoming tide can travel up the stream or river making it over flow the banks
    4) an area of land sinking or rising, shifting the stream
    5) seasonal snow melts that add extra water to the stream or river

What US cities have frequent predictable flash floods?

Posted by admin on April 21st, 2011 and filed under floods | 2 Comments »

As weird as this seems, I’m wanting to shoot a home video of a flash flood forming and the effects of it. I’m especially looking for intersections/neighborhoods that flood frequently. I expect to be patient with this project and are willing to travel. I’d like to film cars stalling out/floating away, trash floating on the water, .etc. I’ve personally never experienced a flood, but will have a backpack of essential things with me.

Does anyone know of a particular street/intersection/neighborhood that FLOODS frequently?

    Any help is appreciated!

If you follow the weather much then you know that a flash flood is hardly predictable. The most likely places would be cities in the deserts of the Southwest.

How are people dealing with Australia floods?

Posted by admin on April 19th, 2011 and filed under floods | 4 Comments »

I have got to do an essay for geography on the Australia floods but how are they dealing with it?

I live in victoria so my town isnt flooded but i have been watching the news. The news headlines are breaking constatly reporting to us what is happening. at the moment 10 people have died 5 of them are children.
Many people are staying on the tops of their house roofs. The water in some parts of Brisbane is up to the tips of roofs and some houses are covered. I have seen cars floating down the streets. People have been evacuating into shelters and highland but many of the shelters have said that NO ANIMALS are welcome.
The floods have also spred to NSW and there have been warnings for Flash floodings in Victoria on Wednesday.

The brisbane river has spilled over, 59 people have been reported missing and houses have been ripped off their stumps. 100mls of rain are pouring down every hour. People are putting sandbanks at the bases of their properties. 9000 homes will most likely be destroyed by thursday and QLD & NSW will have their power cut tomorow morning. 1500 Queenslanders have been evacuated in the past 24hrs. the death toll is rising.

Here is some picture of the flooding.

Sorry just then they reported 78 people missing and another 18 mmost likely dead. Australians are dealing with it by sticking together and helping each other out. There is no more we can do.

i hope i helped you. if you have any more questions email me. PS im 14.

When the world floods again how will Christians react?

Posted by admin on April 17th, 2011 and filed under floods | 16 Comments »

Ok, so it’s been proven that the world naturally floods every so often. Let’s say that it decides to flood in 20 years. Wouldn’t that prove the part of the bible where their god promised NOT to flood the earth wrong? You think that would shake their faith a little?

Irrational Christians have an excuse for absolutely everything. They’ll pull something out of their butts, string together a few opposite bible verses, and say they have the answer, when really they completely BSed something… again.

Will there be volunteer groups heading to Queensland after the worst of the floods pass?

Posted by admin on April 12th, 2011 and filed under floods | 4 Comments »

I thought instead of making a monetary donation, I’d go the extra mile and visit some of the worst affected areas of QLD to help clean up the mess. I want to be able to do something, anything to help people out during this awful disaster. Does anyone know of any volunteer groups that might be heading to the state once the worst of the floods pass to offer a helping hand? I live in Newcastle, on the NSW border.

You’ve actually got to have special qualifications to be able to help, plus there’s a couple of foreign countries who have sent aid. I think we may actually have plenty of physical helping hands when the time for clean up actually comes.

Unless you are already a volunteer firefighter or member of the SES you will very likely get a polite ‘thanks but no thanks’ if you offer. I am married to a firefighter, and have friends in the SES.

It might be worthwhile checking with the Salvation Army though, they often have things going where you can offer a helping hand and not need any of the paper qualifications that you do for the relief work that the SES and Fire Service does.

What do you do if a plug in your basement doesn’t work and it still floods?

Posted by admin on April 5th, 2011 and filed under floods | 2 Comments »

Every time it rains really hard our basement floods and we have to keep cleaning it up. There is a plug on our drain pipe but it still floods. Any way to stop it from flooding?

Put a sump pump in the basement. Plus put a back flow prevention valve in the drain.

Why is rural Pakistan not able to recover from the floods?

Posted by admin on April 3rd, 2011 and filed under floods | 2 Comments »

Why is rural Pakistan not able to recover from the floods? Does it have to do with the involvement of American military in their history at all? What other reasons could there be?

The Pakistani Government is inept and corrupt. The cultural and religious beliefs of the nation are Muslim a religion that preaches hatred not only of non Muslims but also Muslims of opposing sects as well as minorities and women.

As in most third world Muslim countries bribery and theft is a way of life the prophet Mohamed said it is OK to lie cheat and steal as long as it is for Allah and against the Kafir a Kafir is anyone who is non Muslim or Muslim but of a different sect than you and your tribe, so when natural disasters occur they use the opportunity to enrich themselves at their neighbours expense so that they can save their tribe or sect. The Muslim is the exact opposite of a Christian he or she would be acurately described as against Christ. Muslims murder their followers who convert to Chritianity they kill Christian Missionaries one of the most dangerous assignments is to be a Christian Missionary to a Muslim nation. In the Floods and most recen t earthquake the American Military did more to save the people than the entire Paki government and its military. The American Military has rescued more people saved more lives from dictators despots and natural disasters than any other military in the history of the world……….

How do so many people die in floods?

Posted by admin on March 28th, 2011 and filed under floods | 7 Comments »

I mean no disrespect by this question, I’ve just never been through major flooding and am having a difficult time figuring out how floods can be responsible for many human deaths. I just figured you get to higher elevation, go to the next level, the roof even, or climb a tree. Were flood waters exceptionally high in Arkansas that to even get on your roof wouldn’t help?

i guess they can’t hold their breath for to long
