  • What do I do after my emergency unemployment runs out in Texas?

Posted by admin on May 8th, 2010 and filed under emergency |

Hi guys, I am confused. What do I do after my emergency unemployment benefits run out in Texas? My emergency benefits just ran out last week. Does the government have something where they extend emergency unemployment to a phase 2?

You didn’t tell us how long you’ve been collecting benefits, but here is the general system (note, legislation is pending in Congress to allow people to claim for extensions through 12/31/10).

Following is the schedule of payments for most people (remember, if you had part-time work during your regular OR Federal UI claims, the time frames may be extended):

Regular state funded UI: 26 weeks
    Tier I: 20 weeks
    Tier II: 14 weeks
    Tier III: 13 weeks
    Tier IV: 6 weeks

Soon, you will be able to apply for those benefits through December 31, 2010.

For example, say Bill’s initial benefits ran out on December 31, 2009.
He was eligible for Tier I benefits on January 1, 2010 until May 31st (assuming 4 weeks per month) .
His Tier II benefits would be 14 weeks until August 15th. He could apply for an extension after that because it will be before December 31st.
His Tier III benefits would be 13 weeks until some time in November. He could apply for an extension after that because it will be before December 31st.
His Tier IV benefits would be 6 weeks. He can’t apply for an extension after that because he’s not eligible for any more PLUS it would be after December 31st.

For example, say Mary’s initial benefits will run out on June 1st. Currently, she will not be allowed to get any extended benefits. But when they pass the bill, she can get:
Tier I benefits for 20 weeks until November 1st because she will file for that Tier extension prior to December 31st.
Tier II benefits for 14 weeks until February 15th because she will file for that Tier extension prior to December 31st.
But that will be the end of her extensions because she can’t file for Tiers III or IV after December 31st.

There are currently 4 Tiers of Federal benefits after the state benefits run out. Whether or not you will be eligible to apply for all 4 Tiers depends on when your Tiers run out.

I suggest that you start emailing your Congress and Senate representatives, urging them to pass the extension bill through December 31. They need to hear from the people out here without jobs.

Call the unemployment people and ask them. No one on this site can give you a correct answer.

The best answer that I can come up with is get your lazy butt up each day and go out and find something to do even if its is just a few’s hours a week ,why should you want to stay on unemployment for unless you are just plain lazy and sorry ……

YES MY FRIEND YOU WILL HAVE MORE BENEFITS. YOU WILL NOT GO HUNGRY. KEEP LOOKING FOR A JOB AS YOU HAVE BEEN DOING. SOME OF THE UNEDUCATED PEOPLE HERE DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE UNEMPLOYED. THEY HAVE NOT LOST THEIR JOBS, THEY DO NOT KNOW THE FEAR WE FACE. UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS ARE MADE SO THAT YOU CAN SURVIVE, THEY BARELY COVER THE BILLS. NO MAN OR WOMAN WANTS TO DEPEND ON OR LIVE ON UNEMPLOYMENT. IT IS BETTER THAN STARVING AND GOING HOMELESS. THE MAN TO BLAME FOR THE BAD ECONOMY IS PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON. HIS FHA PROGRAM LOOSENED CREDIT AND PEOPLE GOT HOME MORTAGES THEY NEVER COULD AFFORD. CLINTON ALSO GAVE CHINA AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE OVER THE U.S. IN TRADE AND THAT IS WHY THEY OWN AMERICA, BUT THAT IS A DIFFERENT STORY.
