We are considering emergency evacuations in pax jet where smoke may be present which will create severe breathing & visibility problems.
Regulations permit 90 seconds for exit.
As far as I know there is no provision for obese pax (who may compose 30% of the population) to be included in the tests.
Are the evacuation tests realistic?
Fitting more exits will cost more. Wider aisles near exits may improve pax flow.
Aircraft evacuations will never run smoothly. The FAA puts down as reasonable a restrictions as the aircraft manufacturers can accommodate.

I think that it’s 90 seconds because in 90 seconds the airplane may explode.

You state that you may be overcome by the fumes in 45secs - That would probably be the 30% obese pax then. Moral? eat less, excercise more - then you will have a better chance of getting out of a fume-filled plane.

Like everything else in aviation, tests are conducted using averages. They use 170lbs as average weight of a person.

what about restricting overweight people from travelling by plane instead of carrying empty space around the globe?

Intelligent people sit very near the exits. They’ll get out; they’ll survive. That’s what matters.

you will also be dead when the plane comes to a sudden stop as in a crash no need for seat belts then
