  • AMAZING FOOTAGE OF HURRICANE KATRINA - Episode 1

Posted by admin on July 10th, 2009 and filed under hurricane katrina |

Ride Hamilton shows the FIRST intense video excerpt from his in-progress Hurricane Katrina Documentary. The only tapestry of stories filmed LIVE as it was and STILL IS happening. It covers in tragic, emotional, and honest detail - everyday of the storm from DAY ONE to TODAY.

    THIS PODCAST:
Ride stands on Lake Pontchartrain on the eve of Katrina.

The next day, Ride grabs his cameras and starts filming. Quickly he discovers everything save a few neighborhoods is destroyed or flooded. He meets George Stricker who tells the story of evacuating his neighbors by helicopter, then himself gets into his canoe to continue searching for floating gas cans, food, and supplies.

Evacuations and rescues start immediately by every means possible.

In Buras, Ride takes us right onto the broken levees, where the National Guard fights to repair it by dropping sandbags from a chopper as torrential waters pour into the town.

Back in New Orleans, Robert Heecocks of the California Fire Department searches for survivors, but unfortunately still finds the dead.

Driving back, Ride crosses paths with and evacuates Robert Smallwood to the Convention Center, driving through a tragedy of humanity and waste, leaving him to be airlifted out.

Others tell Ride of leaving the Superdome by sneaking out, after watching rapes in the bathrooms - or how they refuse to evacuate at all…

    ABOUT THE FILM MAKER:
Ride Hamilton was the only photo-journalist to never evacuate - and stay living and participating in the New Orleans community throughout Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the electricity-less, water-less, and MRE, heat, and mosquito-filled months afterwards. While instantly becoming a citizen first-responder and the French Quarter medic the moment Katrina left on August 29, he interviewed everyone he came across. Everyone from victims in canoes, to New Orleans Firefighters on rescues and eventually dead body searches. These are their stories. The stories of heroes and victims, and what really happened and is still happening.

      All people, when …
All people, when congregated, have a mob mentality. Look at white neo-nazi groups and soccer hooligans in Europe. I’m just saying, the amount of melanin in a person’s skin has nothing to do with their behavior.

      shit, there were a …
, there were a lot of misreports. even about “all the rapes” in the superdome. in actuality, there was only one confirmed report. and it was fabricated reports like these that make people leave jackass comments like magnumshifter’s. in’ shame ain’t it?

      I am a firm …
I am a firm believer that everything EVERYTHING happens within reason. Pre-destined. some to make you, some to break you. Some things we encounter are not for us to learn from. We some times go through things to be an examples for others. If i have never appreciated life, love, family, etc. I do now. This is my 1st time to see this video and all i can do is cry, to know that. My heart, thoughts & PRAYERS continues to go out to the families and victims of Katrina. STAY STRONG AND PRAYED UP.

      I went on to …
I went on to research your claim whether there was a gang shootout at the Dome. And guess what, that was a misreport. Reality is 10 people died, none were killed. The mainstream media picked up on this misreport, once the report was corrected the media didn’t correct their mistake. You probably didn’t hear about vigilantes and Blackwater shooting black civilians as they fled from their homes, check this video /watch?v=4K3veQLmhAE

    6. esiosan Says:

      I hope you …
I hope you understand my point. I understand things aren’t so simple, but you have had this horrible experience, now why won’t you just make proper arrangements so that you do not have to face this problem again? As you said, it’s not easy, but it can be done. These are my 2 cents.

Who is going to buy …
Who is going to buy the houses that have been damaged by the water??? People cant just up and leave their stuff….they dont have enough money…i know because i was a victim…they had us living in trailors….so nobody wont ever feel what we went through unless they lived there. Its not easy to just up and leave

    8. magnumshifter Says:

      Yeah well …
Yeah well unfortunately black people when congregated have a mob mentality. I heard about the gang shootout with a swat team at the Dome.

    9. esiosan Says:

      I really feel for …
I really feel for the loss of life. Now if you live in New Orleans and you know another hurricane COULD happen again, why on earth would you risk your life & go back live in the same place? Even though there’s continuous media reports that due to earth’s warming, natural disasters are anticipated to happen more often & severely. Why not sell & move?

      Kennard vs. Katrina …
Kennard vs. Katrina was very dramatic live footage caught by Kennard Jackley of Slidell Louisiana.

He has never evacuated during a hurricane and stayed behind for this one, although he did send his wife to Texas.

He captured home video of the waters of Lake Pontchartrain as they rose outside and ended up sending him to the second story of his home.

      I was attached to a …
I was attached to a Guard Unit that went down to ist, and I have to tell you, we were originally supposed to help with rescue efforts, but we were quickly transformed into a Police and Protection Squad. We were supposed to go and provide security at the Dome, but our Commanders got word that things were so horrible there, from the rapes to murders, etc., and that if we went, we’d probably end up killing civilians due to the unrest and psychological condition of the people. It was sad.

I live in a country that if you try hard enough you can make it. Im young and in skool were I will remain until I get some degrees. But 1 main lesson that I have learned from this is that dont try to talk to high and to dwn on people because you have a little money or watever, because in the blink of an eye it can all be gone.I dont care how rich you are.
